Did I choose Reiki or did Reiki choose me?

Updated: Sep 29, 2021

How'd I get on this journey?

I chose Reiki but it found me.

You ever looked at someone and thought what got them to that point? I often do that when I am amazed by someone's journey into their personal ministries and passion project. It's like watching DJ Jazzy Jeff (my favorite DJ) for the first time, becoming a fan, and not knowing he's been DJing for over 20 years. Yet, you're still instantly captivated and curious.

I was offered a Reiki session from my friend (and also Reiki mentor) Doc C, who took an expressed interest in helping me with my foot pain. Everything else I tried, traditionally, was done including orthopedic visits, cortisone shots, and physical therapy. I was done with the agony so I told him "go for it" with a nothing to lose attitude.

The session was completed at a distance, which means he was in Atlanta and I was in New Orleans. I'll get into the distance sessions and how that works in a future post but I admit I was skeptical. Nonetheless, Doc C went to work in his space while I relaxed in mine. I went to bed and woke up the next day with very little pain. At that point, I was sold. I gave Doc C the feedback, told him I was interested in peeking behind the curtain, and he encouraged me to explore it. Not long after, I found a class taking place in January.

My goal was to learn this and make it a part of my life but I didn't know how involved it was about to be. In my next post, I'll talk about what the class was like and how that works.

Until then, be well!

Chris
